prague collage

Sometimes I worry my vocabulary isn't broad enough to qualify as a writer and that I can't give things or places or people the descriptions they deserve. I thought about this on my recent trip to Prague knowing that I'd be summing it up in a blog post. How do you put a wonderful city down on paper (or in pixels) and do it justice? But I'm sure the main aim of writing is to get your message across and George Orwell said never use a long word where a short one will do, so here's what I have:

Prague's preeeeeeetty.

I wonder if stretching out a word sort of goes against Orwell's rule? Who knows. Anyway, I'd heard Prague was pretty before going of course, but damn. The cobblestone streets and old buildings really make it feel like a fairytale come to life. The swarms of tourists at most of the major sites might burst that fantasy bubble a bit at times, but it's definitely still worth going. Definitely.

Recommendations:

Lokal in Old Town for Czech food. It's pretty huge and there's two locations. Reasonably priced, great food.
Seemed to be busy all the time and you'll see a lot of empty tables with reservation cards on them. However, you can check the time on these cards to see when the table's been booked for and you're free to use it up until that time.

Cafe Savoy in Mala Strana was recommended by Winnie from Diamond Canopy (check out her amazing blog and her post on her trip to Prague here). It's a beautiful place for brunch but I went for the desserts, which were wonderful. Try the venecek!

Bakeshop in Old Town for red velvet cookies! Or other kinds of cookies, cakes, sandwiches, coffee etc.

Tram no. 23 is great for sightseeing.

Honest Guide is an amazing YouTube channel run by two guys from Prague with everything you need to know about visiting the city.
