Taiwan Diary Part 1: Taipei

Sunday, 18 January 2015

For my final trip of the winter holidays I went to visit Taiwan! My boyfriend was kind enough to show me around so I got to see a mix of tourist spots and places where locals hang out. It's a great place to visit and really, really cheap!

Taipei 101 was once the world's tallest building so it's an impressive sight. We went up to the observation area on my last day since the sun had finally decided to come out.

That view!

You can see the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and the construction of the Taipei Dome pretty clearly.

The area surrounding 101 is the Xinyi district, the financial and commercial centre of Taipei, where there's a lot of places to shop and eat.

Another great place for shopping is in the east of Taipei around Zhongxiao Fuxing and Zhongxiao Dunhua. This place has cute cafes, small boutiques, and some awesome street art.

We also visited the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall.

The building is huge!

The National Theatre.

Roof of the National Concert Hall.

Later that day, we took the MRT to Tamsui which is north of Taipei. It's a popular tourist spot and there's a great view from the waterfront.

Tamsui Art Gallery. I didn't go in but it's a cool looking building.

Fuyou Temple.

Tamsui is also a popular place to watch the sun set.

That's it from Taipei. I did go to a few more places but I didn't take too many pictures. There's lots to do in Taipei and I cannot recommend the food enough! The next part will be on the places I went to on the east coast of Taiwan.
